Thursday Lecture - The Catholic Church in Colonial Maryland

This presentation will focus on the establishment of the Catholic colony of Maryland by the Calvert family. The lecture will also explore the development of Maryland's Act of Religious Toleration. This law is one of the most important documents concerning religious liberty in modern history.

Additionally, the class will describe the role of Catholic women in colonial Maryland. We will focus on their influence on the Catholic religion as well as their power in the colony's legal system.

Those attending the presentation will find it profitable to review documents 25, 26, 27, 28, 31,32 & 33 found in Documents of American Catholic History.
